Volcano‐Tectonic Evolution of the Christiana‐Santorini‐Kolumbo Rift Zone

چکیده

Located on the Hellenic Arc, Christiana-Santorini-Kolumbo (CSK) rift zone represents one of most active and hazardous volcano-tectonic systems in Mediterranean. Although this has been intensively studied, its tectonic evolution interplay volcanism tectonism are still poorly understood. In study, we use high-resolution reflection seismic imagery to reconstruct opening basins. For first time, relate activity individual faults with specific volcanic centers space time. Our analysis shows a pre-volcanic NNE-SSW-oriented paleo basin underneath CSK volcanoes, representing transfer between Pliocene ESE-WNW-oriented basins, which was overprinted by NE-SW-oriented regime hosting Late that initiated at Christiana Volcano. All subsequent volcanoes evolved parallel trend. Two major Pleistocene pulses preceded fundamental changes including occurrence widespread small-scale followed focusing Santorini increasing explosivity. The observed correlation system magmatism suggests deep-seated control plumbing system. turn, our reveals absence large-scale segments affected indicating secondary feedback mechanism A comparison neighboring Kos-Nisyros-Yali field Rhodos highlights concurrent regional changes, suggesting potential arc-wide scale interplay.

Deep structure and origin of the Baikal rift zone

P-wave velocity images are determined under the Baikal rift zone in Siberia by using teleseismic tomography. Our results show prominent low-velocity anomalies in the upper mantle under the Baikal rift zone and high-velocity anomalies in the lithosphere under the Siberian craton. The low-velocity anomalies are interpreted as a mantle upwelling (plume) which has played an important role in the in...

Metamorphic evolution of high-pressure Quartz Schists in the Chadegan metamorphic complex, Sanandaj-Sirjan zone, Iran

The Chadegan metamorphic complex is a WNW-ESE- trending antiformal structure located in Sanandaj-Sirjan structural zone, Iran. The inner core of the structure is made of orthogneiss, containing eclogitic lenses. Schists and marbles lie structurally above theorthogneiss and crop out in the external limbs of the antiformal dome. Two main deformational episodes have been documented in theschists an...

No thermal anomalies in the mantle transition zone beneath an incipient continental rift: evidence from the first receiver function study across the Okavango Rift Zone, Botswana

S U M M A R Y Mechanisms leading to the initiation and early-stage development of continental rifts remain enigmatic, in spite of numerous studies. Among the various rifting models, which were developed mostly based on studies of mature rifts, far-field stresses originating from plate interactions (passive rifting) and nearby active mantle upwelling (active rifting) are commonly used to explain...
